A thread of creativity connects us all. Long before crafted instruments, our ancestors used their voices to communicate, to create meaning and bonds. Today, as we listen, sing, and create, we’re tapping into this timeless thread, a reminder that the power to create is within each of us, woven into our very nature.
Music, born from this primal expression, reminds us that creativity is woven into our very nature. We all listen to music. Sometimes involuntarily, like when shopping or at the riverbank when someone imposes their sound on everyone with a boombox. But then there are those moments, thankfully, when we consciously listen to music. Alone or together, like when we go to concerts.
Why is music important? Why does it have the power to connect us? How can it confirm our mood or free us from it? What is music? When is it art for art’s sake, and when is it the expression of honest feelings? As a singer-songwriter, the Basel artist BAUM recorded several albums in New York and toured with Van Morrison and The John Butler Trio, among others; as a sound designer, he composes soundscapes for companies. For Creative Mornings, he takes us to the archaic beginnings of music and guides us back to the present. Like a red thread that keeps the narrative together.
This month we will be hosted once more by our dear friends from Stellwerk at Eventraum LocoMotive. And thanks to the wonderful equipment of Silent Monkey, Friday morning will be in stereo this time. So stay tuned and see you on November 29th! The talk will be held in English.
